Obstetrics & Gynecology

The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology was established in 1999, with the establishment of Yenepoya Medical College, a constituent college of Yenepoya University, Mangalore. Postgraduation course (MS) was started in the year 2005 with intake of 2 seats per year, enhanced to 4 seats per year in 2006, currently with intake of 6 seats per year since 2014. The department also offers inter-disciplinary PhD. Fellowship in Reproductive Medicine has been started in the year 2023 with intake of 2 seats per year.

The department is committed to cater standard care of Obstetrics & Gynaecology to Women of all age. Our devoted team comprises of skilled Obstetrician and gynaecologist focused on comprehensively providing prenatal, antenatal, postnatal care, family planning services and also deal with other reproductive health issues. We maintain a holistic perspective and provide training for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Our foremost concerns revolve around patient well-being, education, and research. The Department excels in providing affordable reproductive health care without compromising on the quality of the services provided. The department has seen a steady increase in the number of patients utilizing our services over the years.

ACADEMIC PROGRAMS

Courses Offered

  • Undergraduate: MBBS - 250 seats / year
  • Postgraduate: M.S in OBG - 6 seats / year
  • PhD: Inter-disciplinary

The department excels in academic programmes for post-graduates in the department. Case discussion every Friday and Saturday and seminar on every Thursday are conducted regularly. Additionally on 4th Monday of every month and every Saturday there is a Journal Club programme and once a month college scientific society meeting. Our Department also provides innovative teaching methods including simulated patient learning, animal lab training (ASSEND) and visits to Community Health Centre for holistic training.

CLINICAL SERVICES

Our department provides wide range of services including outpatient care, inpatient care and emergency OBG services. Our services encompass Prenatal, Antenatal, Postnatal care, family planning services and gynaecological services. In addition, we offer specialty clinic services such as High Risk Pregnancy clinic, Cancer Clinic, Infertility Clinic, Gynaec Endocrine Clinic, Menopausal Clinic, Adolescent clinic. The department employs various treatment modalities including minimally invasive surgeries.

We also provide Telemedicine services which has become increasingly popular and a necessity over the recent years especially for those who may have difficulty accessing in-person care.

Community ENGAGEMENT

Department of OBG frequently engage in community outreach efforts through camps and awareness talks and programs to provide Reproductive Health care to the public.

We are associated in conducting OBG camps at following places

  • Community Health Centre, Bunder
  • Community Health Centre, Ullal
