Urology

The department was started on January 2010. The course of M.Ch was approved in the year 2013 and admission to the M.Ch course was started in the academic year 2013-2014. The department has obtained approval for performing Renal Transplantation procedure in the year 2013 by the transplantation of Human organs act, 1994, form12.

  • History:

    The Department of Urology was started in January 2010. The course of M.Ch was approved in the year 2013 and admission to the M.Ch course was started in the academic year 2013-2014.

    The department has obtained approval for performing Renal Transplantation procedure in the year 2013 by the transplantation of Human organs act, 1994, form12.The department of urology has conducted 26 live related kidney transplant and 6 cadavertransplant so far.Ph.D courses were started from the year 2013.

    The department has adequate number of well trained and experienced faculty. There is one Professor and two Associate Professors in the department. The urology department has 20 beds. The department has grown since its inception and delivers the entire range of urology services including endourology, transplant, andrology laparoscopy and robotic surgery.

    The Department of urology conducted National Level Workshop on “Learning the art of robotic surgery” in the year of 2018. The two-day workshop was attended by renowned national and international experts in the fields of robotic surgery. Department conducted a webcast on “Testicular tumours” in 2018 and one on “Sterilisation Techniques of Urology instruments” in 2019.

    A mock exam was conducted for the post graduates from all over the country under agesis of Karnataka Urology Association in May 2019.

    The equipments include the entire range of endourology instruments to conduct PCNL,URS TURP, TURBT, mini PCNL, HOLEP etc, the 100 watt holmium laser, 3D laparoscopy and the Da Vinci robotic surgical system. with good exposure to post graduates to these procedures.

    We have total of 163 books in the department library. We have online access to 71 urology journals. We have subscription for 6 International Urology Journal and one Indian Journal of Urology. We have subscription for 4 International Nephrology Journal and one Indian Journal.Department has total of 27 publications in indexed journals

    There are six ongoing research activities in the department

    • Detection of early potential bio markers for different kidney stone diseases by proteomic and metabolomic study
    • Detection of urinary Biomarkers in Kidney diseases including Cancer; Acute kidney injury.
    • Identification of the prostate-specific gene mutations via genomic approach at different stages of Prostate Cancer.
    • Functional outcome of orthotopic neobaldder.
    • Trifecta outcome of Robot assisted partial nephrectomy.
    • Role of Uroflowmetry in assessing symptomatic improvement in bladder outlet obstruction post TURP.

    There has also been an increase in the number of out patients and IP admissions.

    With this in mind, we propose to increase the number of post graduate intake, to improve the patient services and also impart quality training to the post graduates.
