Respiratory Medicine
The department of Respiratory Medicine was established in the year 1999. The Postgraduate course (MD) was started in the year 2007. The department aims to provide best of class diagnostics and treatment to patients with respiratory diseases at an affordable cost along with providing state of the art education, training & research in the field of Respiratory Medicine. The Academic activities, teaching & clinical training, research activities have been steadily increasing and improving over a period of time.
The department has a vision of providing comprehensive and affordable patient care in a manner that supports and advances education and research thereby enabling all the stakeholders in realizing their true potential.
ACADEMIC PROGRAMS
- Undergraduate : MBBS – 250 seats
- Postgraduate: M.D in Respiratory Medicine - 1 student / year
- PhD: Inter-disciplinary - 1 student / year (1/Guide)
CLINICAL SERVICES
- Regular outpatient and inpatient services for patients with various respiratory ailments
- Bronchoscopy
- Spirometry & DLCO
- Polysomography Level-1
- Chest Ultrasound guided procedures
- CT guided diagnostic procedures
- Allergy Skin Testing
- Carbon Monoxide breathalyzer to aid tobacco cessation activities
- 6 minute walk test
- Non-Invasive Ventilation
- Diagnostic, treatment and referral services for management of Tuberculosis as per NTEP
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
The department conducts awareness & outreach programs for screening, early detection and management of important respiratory diseases on a half yearly basis. The department is also actively engaged in providing telemedicine services as a measure of enhancing the effectiveness of outreach programs.
PARTNERSHIPS AND COLLABORATIONS
The department actively takes part in novel research projects related to various aspects of patient care by collaborating with Yenepoya Research Center and other extra-mural NGOs like Association of Public Health Technologists.
