Outreach activities conducted by the Department of Community Medicine in December 2021

A Focused group discussion was conducted with the 3rd year MBBS students by the Department of Community Medicine, Yenepoya Medical College, Mangaluruat an Anganwadi School, Santhosh Nagar on 08/12/2021. A total of 5 mothers who were the residents of Santhosh nagar came for the FGD. FGD was headed by the faculty in charge along with 2 MBBS students. The topic of discussion was on Breastfeeding, where questions pertaining to the knowledge, attitude and practice of breastfeeding/ exclusive breastfeeding and complementary feeding was discussed. Most of the women had a positive opinion on giving colostrum and practicing exclusive breast feeding and the mothers felt that bottle feeding was preferred only when the mothers had problems while breastfeeding. Advice on breastfeeding was given to the participants in the end of the FGD.
