Ethical Horizon 3, titled "Safeguarding Vulnerable Participants in Research: Approaches and Considerations," was conducted on 13 December 2025 by the Yenepoya Ethics Committee-2 at the Dental Auditorium, Yenepoya Dental College.
The programme included a one-hour interactive academic session led by Dr. Sudhir Prabhu, Professor and Head, Department of Community Medicine, Father Muller Medical College, Mangalore. The session focused on ethical principles, regulatory requirements, and practical challenges in conducting research involving vulnerable populations.
The lecture was followed by a structured group activity, where participants were divided into small groups and provided with ethically challenging scenarios. This was complemented by an open question-and-answer session that encouraged participants to clarify doubts and discuss real-world ethical dilemmas encountered in research practice. The interactive format facilitated active participation and meaningful engagement among attendees.
Outcome of the ProgrammeThrough the group activities and interactive question-and-answer session, participants were able to translate ethical principles into practical decision-making for real-life research scenarios. The discussions strengthened participants' ability to anticipate ethical challenges, ensure appropriate informed consent, and implement participant protection measures.
